“The Big D” is a South-Central US destination beckoning RVers to visit and explore. Dallas offers a Texas-sized list of family-friendly activities, outdoor adventures, and historical attractions. There’s also world-famous barbecue, Tex-Mex, and other cuisine, plus a massive downtown Arts District.

Dallas, Texas is approximately 9,300-square miles, known as the Metroplex, which also includes nearby Fort Worth, Arlington, and many other cities. Top destinations within easy driving distance of Dallas include the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington), and Dinosaur Valley State Park (Glen Rose). If you have time, explore this vast area – including the city of Dallas itself.

Numerous campgrounds and RV resorts offer convenient access to Dallas. Popular places to park a rig include the Dallas/Arlington KOA, the Texan RV Ranch (Mansfield), Traders Village RV Park (Grand Prairie), The Vineyards Campground and Cabins (Grapevine), Sandy Lake MH and RV Resort (Carrollton), and Loyd Park Campground (Grand Prairie).

Pro tip: For getting into and around Dallas, DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) offers bus and rail service. The McKinney Avenue Transit Authority provides free rides from the city’s downtown/Arts District to uptown, on restored, vintage streetcars. Dallas World Aquarium: An ocelot to see!Also a zoo, the Dallas World Aquarium is located downtown in the West End Historic District, 1801 N. Griffin St. Its many residents include ocelots, which is a breed of wild cat native to the Southwest US. You can also check out three-toed sloths, manatees, sharks, giant clams, flamingos, crocodiles, electric eels, and toucans.

Plant yourself at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical GardensThis 66-acre gem has been delighting young and old visitors for decades. It includes the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden, with activities for kids of all ages. The arboretum is located at 8525 Garland Rd.

Get active at Klyde Warren ParkThis unique park was built over a freeway, adjacent to the Dallas Arts District. Options for keeping kids occupied include a playground, butterfly garden, and plenty of space to explore.

Delight in dinos at the Perot Museum of Nature and ScienceHighlights of the 180,000-square-foot Perot Museum include massive skeletons of a T.Rex and an Alamosauraus. You can find them and much more in the museum’s main[DH1] campus at 2201 N. Field St.

Remembering JFKDallas will always be linked with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. Visitors can look back and learn at The Sixth Floor Museum (411 Elm St.), which is also near Dealey Plaza and the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial (650 Main St.)

Experience old-time TexasFor a trip even further back in time, stroll through 20-acre Dallas Heritage Village and its collection of 19th-century Victorian and pioneer buildings. You will find it at 1515 S. Harwood.

Explore the Dallas Arts DistrictWith 19 contiguous blocks and nearly 70 acres, the Dallas Arts District is the largest of its kind in the nation. It boasts the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Crow Museum of Asian Art, and much more.

Steer yourself over to these sculpturesFor a taste of the area’s cattle-driving past, check out the Dallas Cattle Drive Sculptures in Pioneer Plaza downtown. The massive display includes 49 bronze steers and three bronze trail riders.
